The Eco Muralist

Hand-painted murals is what we do. Painting straight onto the wall in a room, with no wallpaper lines and no fuss with sifting through hundreds of designs. We design something to suit your tastes and the space itself and do it as sustainably as possible.

Being Sustainable

What does being sustainable mean for us? There is a lot of greenwashing around so let’s be as honest as possible here about what we try and do. We use paint brands that market themselves as being sustainable. This means their paints are very low or non-existent with VOCs (volatile organic compounds), they use ingredients in their paints that are more natural in their origin, their paint pots are potentially recyclable, or their manufacturing processes are sustainable in some ways. When we paint, we use a select number of paints and mix them up to create colours because we’re not interested in wasting paint.

We are switching tools to bamboo paintbrushes, and recycled paint trays which are fabulous. The left over paint dries on the tray and doesn’t get washed down the sink. We are also conscious in buying habits when we purchase things like paper for designing and working on, which are either recycled or from a sustainable source.

The Industry at Large

We are continuing to try and change some of our habits, and to adopt new behaviours where we can in our business practices. Staying on top of the industry and the new things that are happening, is quite exciting.

The construction and decoration industry in itself is not a sustainable industry (mind you which large industry is?!). The eco-friendly thing would be to not build anymore properties, and not to re-decorate the properties we have. Is that really likely in a world where we are short on housing, companies want to increase their profits, and our properties get run down or outdated within a few years? Not really, but the little things can help.

The more things we can do individually, the better it will be for the industry at large.

Let us know if any you have any other eco-friendly things we could be doing!
