Tulip Bubble Collection

This collection was inspired by the events of the economic crash of 1637 in The Netherlands. See link below for a more in depth discussion of this event, written by Perveen Kaur.

Tulip Bubble

44 x 53cm

This piece demonstrates a broken tulip amongst bubbles. The broken tulip is the most valueable due to its rarity. The bubble however was based on the regular tulip. It began to grow for around 1634 and massively inflated due to popular demand. This was also when trading on the price of something wasn’t regulated.

1637

43 x 52cm

This piece consists of 1 yellow tulip, 6 pink tulips, 3 red tulips and 7 green tulips. 1637 is the year the crash happened. The colour palette of this piece is inspired by Matisse.

Bubble Burst

42 x 54cm

This was the first asset price bubble crash. After this, financial crashes would occur on a semi regular basis, only getting more frequent as the financial system became more complex and interwined.
