Earth’s Geological History

This collection has several pieces of different styles, all exploring the four eons of Earth’s history. Each eon has its own colour palette in response to what was and is happening in each eon.

Observing the Eons of Time

This collection is based loosely on surrealism with a chair in the middle of each eon, so an observer can sit and watch the eon go by. They all measure 26 x 26cm.

Hadean – 4.6 to 4 billion years ago

This eon was when earth and the other planets were forming. Earth was being bombarded by planetary bodies which helped it to reach its current size and give birth to the moon.

Archean – 4 to 2.5 billion years ago

This eon is when the earth settled into its current size. Continental crust began to form, there were oceans and a greenhouse heavy atmosphere which apparently would have given an orange hue to the air.

Proterozoic – 2.5 to 0.5 billion years ago

This eon began with oxygen flooding the atmosphere and life evolving in the primordial seas. There were several ice ages and global freezes during this time.

Phanerozoic – 538 million years ago to present

This is the current eon of time with ‘visible life’. Multi cellular organisms flourished with the cambrian explosion and continued diversifying the tree of life.

One Brush

These pieces are finished using one brush only, to create the variety of marks. They correspond with the eons of time and the colour palettes as set out in the previous collection. Each pieces measures 50 x 50cm.

Rain

This is an abstract finish developed when working in interior design and murals. It’s a blended finish utilising a specific palette and many layers to build up the finish. Each piece measures 35 x 35cm.
