Your home’s hallway is often the first space your guests see when they enter your home, yet it’s often overlooked when it comes to interior design. However, a hallway mural can add an instant boost of personality to this sometimes forgotten space. The beauty of a hallway mural is that it can be customized to reflect your unique style and interests. Whether you prefer bold, graphic designs or delicate, hand-painted details, a mural can help you achieve the look you’re after.
We designed and hand painted a mural for a family home in London. The client wasn’t happy with their current hallway, it had a yellow toned wallpaper, with red accents and beige carpet.
The hallway is not just about your guests though, its the first space that greets you when you come home. It should have some function where you can put your things down and begin to unwind from the outside world. The first thing you see when you walk in, should be intentional for the atmosphere you would like to create.
For this hallway, we needed to get rid of the energetic red, and create a calm atmosphere. We also needed to put some functionality into the space, with a space to sit, take shoes off and put bags down.
The wall condition in this hallway was not that great. The wallpaper hid it nicely but the client wanted something a bit eco friendlier – we have to bin the wallpaper because of the inks and glue used in its production and installation. We opted with our Rain and Cloud finishes. This was to create an all over design that was subtle enough to cover all the walls, and to mask the wall condition. The result is beautiful, it looks and feels like textured wallpaper.
When designing your hallway, it is imperative to decide the kind of atmosphere you want to create. What do you want to come home to: calm, uplifting, colourful, cosy, clean, minimal, light, rustic? The hallway gets a lot of use as it is generally the connecting space between other spaces, however we don’t spend a lot of time in hallways. So don’t be afraid to bring in colour and pattern into the hallway of your space.
